In the morning we woke to the sounds of screaming children, barking dogs, and birds that sounded like they were laughing maniacally. So we decided to have eggs in a nest for breakfast, and then we headed out for the day.
Our first hike was a .3 mile trail called the Moorman Pond Trail, but after we hiked it we christened it the Obstacle Course Trail. A little ways in the trail was blocked by branches that had fallen across the path, and a little ways further there was a giant log barring our way. There were were a couple different ways we used to get over this log: Noah preferred to run and jump, while Grace gave the tree a bear hug. Throughout the rest of our journey we came across several more obstacles and weird formations created by the trees, until we finally could go no further. We turned around and moved on to the next trail, which was called the Cathedral Trees Trail. Near the trailhead was a tree called Big Tree. It was indeed a big tree, but it was not the biggest tree that we had seen in the park. A sign nearby pointed out the Big tree, and also pointed to “Bigger Trees” and “Another Big Tree”.
The Cathedral trail also had many interesting tree formations, and we took some pictures pretending to push trees apart and hold them up.
Our third and final trail of the day was called the Trillium Falls trail, and although we did not see any trillium, there was a little waterfall partway through the loop.
As we walked through the giant trees around us, I couldn’t help but feel tiny and almost insignificant, since these trees had been living for hundreds of years and some had survived multiple forest fires.
After all three trails our next stop was our third out of the five visitor centers in the park. We stamped our passports and used the wifi for a couple minutes and then set off on a scenic coastal drive. Since this was our last chance to see the ocean, we stopped at every lookout point and took pictures. One of the stops along the way was an old WWII radar station disguised as at farmhouse. From the air, sea and road the buildings looked like normal farm, complete with fake dormer windows.

After the coastal drive, we stopped and the store to pick up some groceries and quarters for the showers and then headed back to the campsite. We had a delicious dinner of sausage, peppers, and onions, and had a short campfire before bed.
Our next stop is Crater Lake! Thank you for taking the time to keep up with us!
