I don’t know about the rest of my family, but today I woke up to a super annoying bird that sounded like an alarm that wouldn’t stop. We were all up before 9 and ate some eggs and cereal, and then we drove about an hour to Lake Ozette, where we hiked to Cape Alava and back. This week happens to be a heat wave (102 today) in Washington, so today was very different temperature wise than what we’re used to. Also, the air has been filled with smoke wherever we go, which we learned was from the forest fires in Canada, and the wind pushed the smoke here to Washington.
The trail we went on was long and very humid, so we were all very sweaty and tired by the time we got to the ocean view.

This “beach” was much like the last one we went to, it had stones instead of sand, and I immediately climbed the biggest rock when I came down to the beach, and it had a great view. The other kids followed as soon as they got down the trail.

We joked that we didn’t want to hike back and would rather have someone come pick  us up, but unfortunately we began the trek back much sooner than we would have liked. The way back was even hotter and more humid than before, but the trail was still beautiful. It kind of looked like more of a rainforest than Hoh Rainforest that we visited yesterday.
Afterwards, we got ice creams (of course) and some more groceries because we love to eat. A little bit after we got back, a few of us explored the little river by our site, which I didn’t even know existed, but was actually super close to us. Right now as I’m writing this, we’re  cooking sausages, peppers & onions and it smells delicious. I know we’ll all sleep well tonight.

Hiking in a Heat Wave
