Our journey began about noon as Heather and Noah picked up Claire from Clarkson where she was attending a young scholars camp.  In the car she was ripping through her camp bag throwing the things she wouldn’t need  over her shoulder and stuffing other things in to repack her bag on the go. She got all of 5 minutes at home to change out of her dress clothes and grab a final piece or two.  Claire is our expert packer so we were not at all worried about how successful she would be. In fact as I write this I am considering putting Claire in charge of packing the camping and cooking gear next trip.

We had everything else packed already and started our drive to Albany Airport.   We were at the departures terminal piling our many large duffel bags onto a cart  to about chest height when the attendant asked, “Wow, Are you guys moving or something?”   Yes bags and camping gear for a family of 6  can add up!

The flights went pretty well albeit with some delays  that caused us to arrive almost 2 hours than expected. Luckily the second flight was the one with the longer delay or else we might have been stranded at Midway airport or lost luggage en route. The Southwest flight attendants on the second flight were regular comedians  which helped pick up the moods.

It was after 11:20 PST when we landed which felt like 2:20 eastern time to us.

We had to deal with the bags and rental van and still had a 90 minute drive north to our hotel but most of us were wired and talkative as we drove through Seattle.  Grace asked, “What is Seattle famous for?” … “coffee , rain, Sleepless in Seattle;-)”

Everyone’s spirits are high and we are very excited to have this time together to travel. Tomorrow we explore North Cascades National Park (after sleeping in!)

Sleepless in Seattle
