Yesterday’s adventure was certainly a highlight. When we first got to Olympic, we signed out a backcountry pass to camp out on one of the beaches in the park. On Thursday we packed our campsite and packed only the bare necessities in a few bags. This included a mandatory bear can for our food and toiletries, since apparently raccoons are plentiful on the beach.
We carried our gear about 3/4 of a mile down to the beach. Though it was still very hot elsewhere, the cooler air at the beach was very welcome. The ocean was frigid, but that didn’t stop most of the kiddos from going in.
We walked along the beach, read on a blanket and Claire and Grace climbed one of the big rock-like structures. It was a beautiful and beautifully lazy afternoon.
We enjoyed a picnic dinner and walked on the beach, enjoying the changing landscape as the sun set.
Jeff and the kids collected enough wood to have a campfire and then we got into our tents, tired out from the sun and wind. It was lovely to fall asleep with the sound of the waves and the bright moon in sight.
