This morning was our first at the campground, and we woke to the sound of the boy scouts next door. There were about twenty-five of them staying in the three campsites surrounding us. After having some eggs and toast for breakfast, we put on our hiking boots and drove into the park. We were on the lookout for Twilight references, since we are staying in the town where it took place.

As we drove away from Forks, the trees started getting denser and taller and more mossy, and we knew we were getting close to Hoh Rainforest.

We hiked two different loop trails: the Hall of Mosses and the Spruce Trail. Halfway through the Spruce Trail, we came to a riverbank and we dipped our toes in. It was freezing, but Grace still went up to her knees.

I couldn’t  stay in for more than a minute, and even then my feet were red when I got out. After we got our hiking boots on, we continued on to finish the trail and got in the car to go back to the campsite. We stopped at the store on the way home and got some ice cream sandiwches, which were much appreciated after the humid hikes.

Back at the campsite, we got our swimsuits and towels and packed the car again to go to Rialto Beach. This beach was different from any other I have ever been to, because instead of sand, the ground was covered in smooth, grey rocks that were perfect for skipping. Huge pieces of driftwood that were actually logs formed a barrier between the parking lot and the beach, and since the wind was a little bit chilly, we used one as a barrier.

The ocean was also freezing, so we didn’t swim, but we did collect some pretty cool rocks. Noah found one that was a deep black and perfectly smooth, and he said it was “better than a fidget spinner.” Mommy found flat rocks to make a cairn for her office, and I made a rainbow out of eight different rocks.
After about an hour at the beach, we went back to the campsite. We did laundry, took showers, and had mexironi for dinner, one of our camping favorites. We were all eager to spend an evening at the campsite, and now we are all relaxing and recharging for tomorrow!

I hope your day was as lovely as mine was, and thank you for taking the time to check in with us on our journey!
