Our first full day in Moab was a blast!
–But first a quick note from last night. Turns out that the cabin we are renting has WiFi. Heather and I decided not to tell the kids, but of course as you would expect it took them only about 20 minutes to find out 😉 It should be useful though because we are very remote with no cell phone reception and will make it easier to look things up and to blog 🙂
We started the day at Dead Horse Point State Park. You might think, “Ohh a state park –It can’t be on the level of the national parks …” but you would be very wrong. Heather and I visited here a few years back and the hiking and views from here are every bit as spectacular as the Grand Canyon. It abuts Canyonlands National Park and provided a fun hike and wonderful pictures. The heat was a bit rough though and several of us were tired after the hike.

By about noon the temperature was climbing and approaching 100 so we headed for the Colorado River for a rafting trip. None of us have ever done this before so we were very excited. Being mid summer the Colorado is low and slow so this was just a simple family trip with class 2 rapids so nothing too crazy.
Grace and I got to ride in a “ducky” which is their term for a inflatable tandem kayak. The rest rode in a larger raft with the guide. Lots of jumping overboard for long floats down the river, splash fights, and an overall fantastic family experience where we could beat the heat together! I taught Grace how to splash effectively with a paddle, something I soon regretted.
Grace and I were able to shoot some action cam video which she will put into her trip vlog she will be editing upon our return.
