Apparently I have to step up my blog writing because Maddie basically wrote a novel for yesterday’s post 🙂
So, yesterday started with us waking up, (obviously) and having a breakfast in the cabin, of yogurt with fruit and granola. After that we all got our hiking bags together and filled up our water. It was about a 15 mile drive to the trail we were hiking, and we started around 11:00. We soon realized that the trail was not at all what we thought it would be! The path was very overgrown, very narrow, and VERY thorny.
We also got tired faster due to the much higher elevation. (almost 9000 feet above sea level in comparison to 900 feet in New York!) The trail seemed never ending, but we stayed optimistic and enjoyed the view of the canyon every once in a while. Finally, we reached the end of the trail and ate our lunch, which tasted delicious.
Then it was time to turn around and go back! This is where the game 20 questions comes in. We played 20 questions all the way back to the start. Claire and Maddie used harder characters like the Kool Aid man, the Aflac duck, President Benjamin Harrison, or the blue female centaur from Disney Fantasia. (what??) Noah and I kept it simpler with people like Rita Skeeter, Ed Sheeran, and Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.
At this point in the hike we weren’t being careful about not getting scratched, we were just walking straight through. Believe me, I have the scratches to prove it! After getting back to the car we took this photo 🙂

I’m not sure about the rest of the family, but I immediately fell asleep as soon as we got back in the car. We then drove to a beautiful scenic spot called Angels Window. It was kind of surreal to see the canyon all around us.
After that stop we were all exhausted, so after a quick stop at the park’s store, we took to reading for a while before our picnic dinner!
We loaded the car with all the food and drove to a spot with picnic tables where we could cook dinner. When we got there all of us kids played cards and had a lot of fun. This is hard for me to admit, but Maddie and Noah won. Then we just read and ate. It was a really fun day despite the thorns 🙂 Thanks for reading!
