We woke up at the campsite, and it was really cold. We ate a quick breakfast (cold pizza from the night before) and it was really cold. We hopped in the car (#1) and drove to the train station. We rode the train (#2) into San Francisco and then got some bus and cable car passes. We got on the bus (#3) and walked a couple blocks to the cable car stop. After a couple cable cars drove by some people at the front of the line left, saying they had been there for hours. We decided to leave too, and we walked to the beginning of the cable car route. There was a huuuuuuge line. We waited for a couple minutes, trying to use the bathroom in a Burger King after a while, but it took quarters and we didn’t have any… We had Mommy talk to a cable car operator and he said they’d leave a couple spots open when they went down the line a little. We walked back to the next stop and waited in line for 45 minutes, then finally got on a cable car (#4). Grace, Claire, and I stood along the side and held onto the bars.
Cable Car

It was a lot of fun and the waiting was worth it.
We got off the cable car at Fisherman’s Wharf. There were a lot of little seafood restaurants, and we got some clam strips and shrimp and fries for lunch. Then we walked down to Pier 39 and looked at all the little shops. We got some mini donuts, and then later some mini cupcakes.

Then it was time to board our boat to Alcatraz! We waited in line for a while, then had to get our tickets reprinted, then waited in line some more, and then we got on the boat (#5). The boat ride wasn’t that long. A ranger named Steve welcomed us to Alcatraz and told us the rules and all that stuff. We walked up some switchbacks and got in line for the audio tour of the cell block. The tour was really cool. They had these sounds playing that went along with the story they were telling. Four correctional officers and four prisoners talked during the tour.

After we were through with that, we went through a couple gift shops and got our National Park passports stamped, since Alcatraz in in a National Park. We took the ferry back and walked to the bus stop. Some locals left after a while.because three buses didn’t show up. We walked to another stop that had three different buses and finally one came. We walked to the train station after getting off the bus, but we had some time to kill before the 7:30 train. We ate at a Panera cross the road and then get on the train. This time Grace, Claire, and I rode on the second floor. We got back in our car after getting off the train, then drove back to our campsite. After eating some s’mores we got into our sleeping bags and took about two seconds to fall asleep. Today we are going to see the Golden Gate Bridge and later we’re going to swim in the ocean.
More to come later!
